Writing Award Explanations
The Prosh
Awards, organized by Red Monster and Desert Nomad, were "given for
X-Force fan fiction, to encourage the writing of it and to reward the
efforts of authors who stick up for X-Force".
- There was a total of 12 awards given out: Comedy, Romance,
Adventure, Subreality Cafe, Built Around Single Character, Crossover,
Drama, Reader's Pick, Most Promising New Author, Best Story Overall,
Best Author Overall and Honorary Awards.
- Of these, I got 5: Best Romance, Best Built Around Single
Character, Best Crossover, Best Author Overall and an Honorary Award.
The Maggie
Awards were organized by Alara Rogers and voted on by a panel of
four people. The purpose of the awards was to spotlight high-quality
Magneto fanfic that the panel thought the general public would enjoy
reading.
- The awards were named according varying shades of the electromagnetic
spectrum. In order of importance, from biggest to smallest award, they
were: The Gamma Ray Award (3 were given out), the X-Ray Award (13 were
given out), the Ultraviolet Award (47 were given out) and the Visible
Light Award (15 were given out).
- Of these, I got one Ultraviolet Award.
The CBFFA Awards
(Comic Book Fan Fiction Awards) were organized by Kelly "Kielle"
Newcomb and were voted on by the entire fanfic community. It was the
first, and to date remains the most significant and all-encompassing
award ceremony for comic book fan fiction.
- The awards were separated by categories, each category awarding a
winner, second place and third place.
- In the X-Force category, I tied for second place, and tied for
third place.
- The relevant excerpt from the ceremony: "Okay. First, in
Third Place, we have a tie -- 'Your Way,' by Samy Merchi, and 'X-Force
Vs. The Peeps,' by Desert Nomad." Desert Nomad waved tiredly from her
table, where several Peeps were lapping up the remains of the
fermented soy sauce. They'd looked up at the mention of their names,
but the alcohol proved more interesting. Samy trotted up to the stage
to get his award. "Stay here, boy," Mr. Williams instructed. "The
Second Place Award is also a tie -- 'Apocalypso,' by Mr. Merchi, here,
and the "Dreamweaver/True Believer Series' by Alicia McKenzie." Both
Writers received their awards. Samy looked at Billy Dee Williams, who
nodded. Both Writers sat down. "And finally, by an overwhelming margin
of votes, First Place goes to DuAnn Cowart for 'Just Lucky, I Guess.'"
